Craniosacral Therapy
Upledger CranioSacral Therapy has been found to support greater overall wellbeing and decreased pain symptoms for a wide variety of diagnoses.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach to evaluating and enhancing the craniosacral system, which is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
CST is a complementary treatment that releases tensions deep in the body to help reduce pain, relieve dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and performance. By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive healthcare measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease.
As a hands-on treatment technique, you will be invited to rest fully clothed on your back on a massage table. The therapist will complete a brief evaluation, listen to your primary areas of concern, and begin to work with you to address them. All manual therapies address restrictions in the body fascia in one way or another. Due to the continuity of fascia throughout our body, at times clients notice changes in the immediate area where the therapist is working, and at other times changes are noticed far from the site of the therapists' hands. This is common. Because it can be a very light-touch work (not always - there is variability in this), occasionally a client may not feel specific changes but instead an overall greater sense of relief an wellbeing. One session might be very similar or very different than a subsequent session.
SomatoEmotional Release
SomatoEmotional Release is conceptualized as the release of emotion from the body tissues. Dr. Upledger and many other researchers found that our fascia seems to hold memories, separate from memories stored in our hippocampus or other brain structures. Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk refers to this in his book, The Body Keeps the Score. At times, as tissue restrictions are addressed, an emotion associated with that area of restriction arises. At other times, an area of restriction will not thoroughly release until the associated emotions are allowed to move through. This can be done with appropriate counseling or talk therapy, or may occasionally arise during a bodywork session. Our therapists are trained to support a client if this becomes part of the work we are doing together, and to make appropriate referrals for counseling as needed. While Occupational Therapy is a holistic modality that includes mental health, and we take several psychology classes as part of our training, we are not counselors and do not provide counseling sessions to our clients. In SomatoEmotional release work, the focus is on achieving release of tissue restrictions and working to support your ability as a client to achieve your own goals.
